Fun with Money: A’s Pickups 2011

Its a day more anticipated than the Mad Hatters Fudderwaken on Frabjous Day, and certainly less creepy, but Eric Chavez if finally leaving Oakland next season, and freeing up $12 million.  With the departure of Ben Sheets as well, that makes at least $22 million in the teams coffers.

Now we will not speculate on other players, such as Mark Ellis, Jack Cust and Connor Jackson, as I believe the A’s should keep atleast two of those players, have fun with that one, but let’s think about what to do with our money, and look at some players in the rumor mill.

Yes Indeed, Out for the Season

So there is more news in the Connor Jackson injury saga, and it is not good, but very expected.  Jackson is to undergo season ending surgery September 1st for the sports hernia that has apparently been inhabilitating.  Jackson believes that the hernia could be the mastermind of his other injuries, but this accusation is mere speculation.

It is sad to see him go, having played just 18 games in his entire stint with Oakland, and I hope he will be back next year.  True many say this is just another injury prone player, but I say give him a chance, I’m sure the price tag will be reasonable enough.

Split Series, Tampa Takes Last 3-2

Anytime you split a series with a powerhouse like Tampa Bay, it is hard to be disappointed, but the fashion of the losses can come into question.  In a series where every game was decided by 1 run, you need to plate runners and get hits and the A’s really did not do that Sunday.

Truth of the matter is besides a late rally in the 9th, the A’s did not do much offensively.  The A’s first run came off of a balk with the bases loaded in the fifth, yet they couldn’t do anything with the two runners on second and third with just one out in the same frame.  Click here for the box score, or more for a bit of recap.

Jackson Back on the DL, Season Ending?

Connor Jackson was placed back on the disabled list today with what could be a season ending lower abdominal strain.  It is unfortunate that he has spent so much time on the DL, but the news gets worse.

Even though he is only on the 15 day DL, there is a chance he will opt to have season ending surgery in order to repair what appears to be a sports induced hernia.  We will keep you updated, but let’s hope that he decides against surgery and is able to come out and play once his stint is up.

A’s Pick up Another, 7 Back

Well Cliff Pennington did it again, albeit somewhat unconventionally, and the A’s moved to within 7 games of the Rangers.  Now I am just spitballing here, but that is the same number of games we have left agaisnt the division leaders, and if we keep playing hot and they keep cooling off, we have a shot.

I hate to speak too soon as well but it looks like Texas is in line for the loss today after Cliff Lee got blasted for 4 homers.  Not to mention Vlad has really cooled off to the sub par hitter that he is giving them less offensive power than previously.  But enough about Texas, click here for the box score from last nights game, or the more for some fun and games.
